openmoney

I've started work on building cc support in Drupal, a modern content management framework. By the time I've finished, hundreds and hundreds of communities should have access to free software to enable them to trade online, and communities already using Drupal will be able to just plug it in and start trading.

If anyone knows can offer any Drupal mentoring, that would make a tremendous difference. I already prototyped the whole thing in php two years ago, but getting into Drupal is a hard slog. Later in the year I will be looking for users to try it out, and then a community to test it with. Hoping to get it ready for the next 'recession'.

So you can look forward to that!

Hey this sounds very good, and I'd like to know more about it. I know some drupal as I've installed and run a few of them. Can you email me with more info or a URL? I'm interested in the currency trading part. Thanks.

Hey Mark, Pleased to hear from you.

I'm approaching the problem as a Drupal developer, but I'm still learning the ropes, and there isn't a book for Drupal 6 yet, so I keep running into low walls, and getting stuck for hours. You'll see though that progress is clear.
I liked your magazine, by the way, but hated the on-line viewing mechanism. Your web site didn't tell me some important things: Who payed for / commissioned it? Who was the intended audience, and how was it distributed / promoted?
When you've had a look at the bazaar site, let me know if you think you can play a role. For more information, have a look at the Google Summer of Code uncut application at

Mat, this is very exciting.

Like Eric Harris-Braun and Joshua Zeidner i too have interest in bringing together community currency and Drupal.

I am still just getting my feet wet with Drupal. Nevertheless, i would be interested in participating in your project. I have

Hello Tom,
Josh and I have been talking for the past month. About how the work I'm doing can be further developed to separate out the banking functions to a more serious application, namely Cyclos, by developing an API.
Have a look at the project area, http://bazaar.matslats.net, have a look at the progress report (aka helpme), let me know if you feel you have something to contribute. When views 2 works, that progress report will be available as a feed.
Can I have your email?

This sounds interesting Matthew. Alan Rosenblith (search members) in Portland has been asking about Drupal modules compatible with open money.

Thanks Michael
You may remember I emailed you about three years ago before building the prototype, (search your archive for matslats), Boy, things move slowly around here. Things never quite worked out in the UK but now I'm in Geneva and the group here is showing some interest. They searched the web and found only cyclos, so have started work on a php/mysql ap. But hopefully I can bring them forward three years!
Matthew

PS The prototype I did before was happy with multiple currencies by the time Mary Fee finished with that, so the architecture takes full account of it - and gift-transactions, and lots more!

Do indeed remember. And the many trials and tribulations of Fee.

How soon are you projecting something we can play with?

Hi Matt,
If you are still seeking some Drupal knowledge, I've been developing for Drupal for a couple years now. I haven't done anything on Drupal 6 yet but hopefully I can help you over some of those low walls if you need some assistance....
Best,
Jim

Hi Matt -

I've been developing with Drupal for about four years now, written several modules and done lots of customization for clients. I have limited hours overall, but please add me as a resource for helping hoist things over the low walls here and there. Drupal 6 is pretty new, and I mostly work in Drupal 5. However, much is pretty similar, and the thinking that gets you 'round the walls is identical. The design-structure patterns in Drupal are a bit to learn, but man they sail smooth once you got them.

I'm continuing to develop the assessment module for Drupal seen in action at wholebusinessproject.com (Portland area project).

Cheers,

Hi Katin,

Thanks for getting in touch. The wholebusinessproject looks valuable. This openmoney group seems to have swelled a lot recently, how did you hear of it?

If you could spend a few minutes absorbing the story so far at http://bazaar.matslats.net, and then subscribe to the helpme/feed, I think that would be the most efficient way for you to track the project and chip in. I'm also happy to chat if you want to talk about the architecture or overall strategy.

I'm looking forward to your helping hand! This might also give you an excuse to become acquainted with D6.x!

Matthew

Hi Katin,

do you have any experience with the User Points API?

Hi Joshua -

In fact, the UserPoints module is the one I used as a base/starter module for the trading accounting system. It's a branched project, though, not an upgrade to UserPoints.
