The Hexayurt - a free/open refugee shelter system - is the project I'm best known for. Used to be quite into digital currency etc.
CheapID is a fairly well reviewed shot at a global biometric identity management standard based around never, ever letting governments get ahold of your biometric data. It shows conclusively that one can balance security and privacy not in a 50/50 compromise, but, by going deeper into the problem, one can get to more like 90/90.
It takes cryptography, but that's OK. Worth a read if you have the time, it expands possibilities.
