Release early, release often. In May, Alan Rosenblith - the producer of the The Money Fix - came to visit us (Ernie and Michael) in the Comox Valley. We spent three busy days shooting some very basic "talking head" video to document the "need to ...

Hi Michael,
While building momentum and a non-profit to implement ning-ish LETS web sites for communities, I'm deciding my next coding priority. Might you get on board if the software did multiple currencies, but not multiple accounts-per-user? Users could have multiple accounts, of course, but could only log in to one at a time. The transaction engine can already do multiple currencies, but there's a load of expansions needed to the user interface to make it usable, and configuration options to be coded. Do you think you might be able to muster any support (money) for that? Would you be interested in talking about ways to finance the software after it is written (this would of course be safer, but also more expensive).

Michael, it's basically the same as what we are using, except we've got a few flavors of accounts. We're introducing coupon accounts, allowing for different rules on their use. This will allow a grocery store, for instance, to target exactly which products drive currency increases as well as providing a means to return currency to buyers (buy so many $ of goods, receive x amount of coupons). Coupons generated by the system (creating growth in money supply) are also a source of redevelopment funds. Still need to flesh this out a bit, but we put it in there because coupons can be used to incent targeted buying behaviour.

We may use your standard nomenclature if that's okay with you.

wow - thanks, Michael! I love entity diagrams and data flows! I'm assuming this is public domain?

Hi Michael. I'm just starting in on this and am looking to make contacts with folks like you who have blazed a few trails. Thanks for reaching out. I've got an extensive systems (IBM Finance) and modeling (IDS Scheer and ILOG) background and have always been interested in how a community is defined. My objective is to build a hyper-local system (enabling each person to be their own bank) and start testing it this spring. Don't mean to overstate it...just trying to use this as the main design element. I'll be happy to share more as I make progress.

OK there's now a second version of the debian package on my website and an updated description sheet. This describes the layout of the the current SMS messages (may not be the last word).

I've also updated the RSS feed scripts, these may be more useful than looking through the ads, all the time.

Hi Michael

Thanks for your confidence. I suggest that you take a look at the current debian package and then wait a couple of weeks into the new year for an 'improved' release. That will contain a complete sms 'protocol' (PIN validation, change, locking etc.) and the tables (but not the logic) for OpenID, for example. Also, if there are comments, bug fixes etc. there's probably some capacity to get them fixed.

I see some comments below about multiple currencies in one transaction below. I allow a 'split' (for the case of partial national currency + partial community) but it hasn't been well tested. I don't allow x to y. I do allow x to x in different registries.

Multiple in one entry is an end goal, but the main requirement is that there are multiple cc available. It's a minor concern that this will initially require multiple entries.

In the first instance i.e. now, it will do only one currency, but it's been coded with multiple currencies in mind. I want to get a community using it with one currency before upgrading the transaction engine. Would you expect the system to allow multiple currencies in the same transaction? Every time I think about this I shudder about the user interface.
